Early April

Yesterday morning we woke to a blanket of snow. Today, however, it is spring.

The overwintered veggies are about to start their final burst of growth; salad days are here!

We've been eating the broccoli already; it seems just as delicious whether we get to it before some of the flowers open or not. Is that your experience, too?

Oh, it looks SO wonderful... beautiful... healthy & delicious!

My broccolis get much bigger before they get heads. And I do eat them with flowers, no problem and they love a bit of cold to sweeten them up. Kale, too.

Our hummers usually show up about April 10. Wonder if they'll be a bit late this year with strange weather?

You're in the Settle area? I was just there and the weather is unlike Anything I'd seen there in the 17 years I lived in the area.. things are so late!

Yes; I've been here 16 years and have seen nothing like this. Last year spring had been in full swing for a month already by this time. My cherries haven't opened a single blossom! I hope it doesn't throw the pollinators off.

Do you overwinter your broccoli too? I planted these last fall. Those I planted last spring, which grew in warmer and sunnier weather also got much bigger. However, this crop is pest free. Broccoli grown in warmer weather is the single most bug-delicious thing I grow; it's a real battle with the aphids and catepillars in the summer!

Remind me where you live now? Still in the PNW?

I moved from Redmond by Lake Sammamish. I started out being a student living in the U district, on Queen Anne and in the oldest homestead in Bellevue (Houghton homestead which is now torn down and condos going up.. sigh.....)which we renovated... to New Mexico (rural between Santa Fe & Taos) at 7000 feet. It was quite a contrast. Extreme weather.

I had a few broccolis inside one greenhouse which sloooowly produced over the winter. I just pulled them and have new babies ready to plant this week in there. The loopers here do love them!

Hear you're having a lovely day! yay! spring....
