I'm still subscribed to the RSS feed for this LJ, but this post was the first I'd heard about the recent news.
A skim of a few articles about it are interesting. Naming and Shaming of the YouTuber who leaked the news, divisions on various boards about the kind of fandom that would send death threats to a person for keeping the server private as well as polarized reactions to the mope who revealed it. And now speculation about the public dump of the test server.
I've been quietly, patiently following updates from City of Titans and worrying that whenever it gets released that my Mac won't be able to run it. A true CoH server sounds attractive in that light. I found that the little excursions I made into the Costume Creator port were more annoying than nostalgic, because it was just me running around. A server with 3,000 other players on it, even if it doesn't have proper NPC support or activity, would help make it feel real and alive again.
I've gone ahead and made an account on the test server, and run through the sewers and with one toon actually did Frostfire, and boy was it fun. I have no idea what the long term prospects are, but it sure is great to get back in the saddle, even just to ride around the yard, so to speak.
I haven't been using LJ for a while, but this is one of the places I've returned to in the wake of my seeing the recent CoH developments. Work has kept me from diving into that more, myself, but I definitely plan to figure out how to get into the city this weekend!
