ok, u find an icon u like (u can google "livejournal icons" or u can use them from iconator, or where ever u get ur icons) then u right click on the image and then click "save as" and save it into ur computer. then go onto livejournal and click where it says "manage" and go over to where it says "user pictures". click that.then go to the lil box thing that says "browse" and find ur file that u saved the image in. then click that and press save.
