Looks lovely. And restful in a strenuous way. Breathing at altitude can be challenging, but being on vacation, one can sit pretty much whenever. Now, no littering! It's Switzerland and they like it clean. And think twice about the yodeling.
It's beautiful, we've been to Grindelwald a couple of times before and it's just a stunning place. I have a thing for the Eiger, I just can't help myself.
We're planning on starting off slowly this year, not had time to put in enough Peak District practice walks!
To be honest, I might not yodel. It's probably more than my life's worth! Cat has done the Sound of Music dance up there before now though and got away with it *g* I'm just hoping that this time around, I don't get herded into a billy goat's harem... long story. Actually, not that long, the damn thing took a shine to me and tried to herd me into his flock. Cat couldn't help me for laughing...
At least it was a mammal. My brother has friends that have a weekend place in upstate New York where among other things they keep peacocks and hens. The peacock thought my brother quite fetching and did his mating display for my brother at every opportunity. I think my brother thought him quite handsome but didn't fancy a long distance avian relationship.
LOL. That's fabulous. The goat didn't have an impressive mating display or anything. He had sunburn and goat-smell. It wasn't entirely attractive to be honest...
It looks so much nicer without all the clouds that covered everything when we went there in Oct 1993. The only time we saw mountains was when we took a little twisty road above the clouds.
We're hoping for some decent days of weather, you have to go for two weeks really to try and better your odds because it can be unpredictable in this valley.
Driving?! Oh we won't be driving. We're spending the hol in one place so trains, cable cars, buses and shanks' pony are the way forward ;-)
Even better without the driving. A dear friend of mine loaned me her copy of "The White Spider", written by Heinrich Harrer, one of the first guys who successfully climbed the North Face of the Eiger. You have to be a climber at the top of the game, AND be lucky, to climb that face and survive. The book is really compelling, and it was a shock when I read about Harrer's POW experience during WWII (he was Austrian). Well worth the read, if you can find a copy.
