More boredom
Maybe because I'm tired, but this all feels trite and sophomoric to me. Maybe I'll re-write it tomorrow.
Zhorvice knew his way around the taverns of the world, and the sensation of being unable to avoid a collision with something he was approaching.
“Eh?” he mumbled as he felt himself walk into something that wasn’t there a moment ago. Looking down, he saw what appeared to be a pole blocking his path. “What the ‘ell’s th-“ he started before being interrupted.
“I believe you have something that belongs to me.” came from a voice around the corner?
“’Ew’r yoo and whadda I got that’s yers?” he replied.
The obstacle fell away from Zhorvice’s chest as a figure stepped from around a corner and faced him. “The pendant” the stranger said. “Where is it?”
“Pendant? Tha’ piece o’ junk that damn thief tried to pawn off on me?”
“Yes. That.”
“Well ‘e still ‘as it! Werthless trinket! Wanted five hundred gil fer it! I wouldn’ta given him two!!”
Zhorvice, senses dulled by the ale, didn’t realize until after the fact that he was six inches off the ground and pinned against a wall.
“I know you have it. Where is it?”
“I dun’ ‘ave it!” Zhorvice replied, suddenly feeling paniced.
Frustrated, the stranger unceremoniously dropped him to the ground.
“Useless, useless” he said. “Fine, then. Who is this thief?”
“I dunno ‘is name!”
“You lie.”
“But-“ Zhorvice froze mid sentence, now that the tip of lance was aimed at his face.
“Who?”
“Su-Su-Sujerron!!” He stuttered. “Prob’ly back in Norg by now!”
“Norg? Thanks.” Came the stranger’s reply. “Oh, and your next drink is on me” the stranger said, dropping a few gil on the ground next to the drunk. "Don't want everyone to think Jekai is completely heartless."
Walking away, he sharply whisteled. “Lumiere, we’re leaving.”
Though he would later chalk it up to the alcohol and odd encounter, Zhorvice could have sworn he saw something fly past, flapping what sounded like leathery wings.
