Here are some pics of the farmstead of late.
Here are the turkeys, getting bigger. They're out in the greenhouse now
Here is a shot of a leghorn hen, almost fully grown-up:
We've been digging up and eating some of the early potatoes. They're so young, that you can almost peel the skin right off with your hands. Here is one of the red potatoes (apologies for the blurriness):
And here are some reds and yukon golds in the pot, cooking (I was making homemade turkey sausage next to them):
Sadly, my corn field is full of weeds, and there are way too many to go row by row weeding. My father was here the other day, and he gave the carb on the tiller a thorough cleaning and adjustment. It needs a new tire now, but after I get that, I could take that and go between the corn rows to take out some weeds.
I've been pricing three-point cultivators for Charlene, and I'm thinking about a Leinbach, like the one
here. The furrowing attachment and corn planter would work great, too. The furrowing attachment lets you create the furrows. It's basically a set of discs that pushes the dirt into rows. That would save my back and allow me to plant more. I could also do my garden in minutes with it.
Yesterday, I met another guy who sells new and used ag equipment around the corner from my house. He had a Leinbach catalog and will be getting a cultivator in soon. I'll go check it out and see what it looks like.
I better start saving my pennies today, though. It may have to wait until next year.
