I figured it out!

So, last night I called apple support again and they basically said (paraphrased here) "we're idiots here, you have to go to a genius bar - they be smart". So I basically say screw it and head north. Go to the genius bar and they try it and it works on their ifruit, and can't see why it won't work for me. It worked on their computer in the back
