Please be advised that we are the attorneys for Mr. Schroder, defendant in a lawsuit brought against him by your client, Ms. Marietta Beethoven.
According to copyright law, Ms. Beethoven's claim carries no merit. There is no provision for relatives of subjects of artwork to claim copyright violation. The copyright owner of the image must claim the violation. Since Ms. Beethoven is not the copyright owner of these images.
Furthermore, these images have also passed into public domain and are therefore not subject to copyright law and are free to republish under "Fair Use". We will be filing a formal response to your client's claim Monday morning. A copy of this response is included with this letter for your convenience.
