Well aside from being a Red Sox fan and having less than the best taste in cigars, Claire really likes Alan.

On a professional level, she really respects him as a lawyer. She might not agree with him all the time, but she respects him.

On a personal level, Claire thinks Alan's a little like her. They both have a bunch of defenses, probably like every other lawyer in the firm. Claire saw the kind of friend Alan is with Clarence and realizes there's more to him than just the sleazy lawyer.

She's also really happy he's happy with Denny.
