today susie and i paid a bewildering amount of money for a tour of the Tower of London, which for your information is 3 stories tall, and took a tour of the Globe theater. Oh, we ended up taking a bus into the suburbs that night and sleeping in this bizarre guest house. It was just this lady's condo in the outskirts of town with about 4 or 5 bunk beds. There was one bathroom for everyone to share, and the kitchen was always open. There were cupboards of plates and bowls and spoons, two sunken sofas, and a kitchen table. It was warm and nice and everything, but I had this strange feeling that we had snuck into somebody's house. We never saw the woman who lived there after we paid, and we felt sort of sneaky, just helping ourselves to milk and cereal in a stranger's home. We stayed there for two nights. It was a little cheaper, but the cost of taking the tube to the center of town ate up the difference in price. My birthday was wonderful. Susie and I spent the whole day in the National theater. But the whole theater was filled with people from little 6 year old kids to old, old, English old people. And we were all captivated by this epic, 6 hour performance, full of meaning and spectacle.
