Great post and certainly helpful to someone like me who hates Maru from the bottom of her heart (SJK is amazing in the role and Maru is fascinating, but the fact remains is I want to take a flamethrower to him). I especially liked your perspective on 'this is a dream' comments to her because it kept bugging me because I saw it as him being willfully ignorant - he himself knows it doesn't work this way as his actions towards Jae Hee demonstrate. The alternate explanation is less rage-inducing.
I am afraid there is no way I can ever ship Maru/Eun Gi - but it's a riveting relationship to watch.
They're walking a very tightrope, and I honestly don't know what to expect from one episode to the next. But it's not a case of their not knowing where to go, flying by the seat of their pants. They clearly have a plan, I just don't know what that is. And I hope they can keep it all together, b/c it'd be a shame for all this to flounder in the end.
And just think of this moment... EG is sleeping in a room with the man she loves while JH is sleeping in a bed (in a luxurious but sterile world) next to a man who could be her father.
I could (probably) never hate Maru. I hate his actions but I never hate him because how could he give up this wall he built around him over the years? Just imagine him being in prison with people who were really murderers. How could he give up this wall which protects him? Especially towards a woman when he and his love was crushed by JH?
I agree with you. With EG he is totally different. He tries hard not to care but in those moments where she touches him and his eyes flicker... Gosh, how could I not love him?
In some ways though, if he's starting to care for EG, and I think he's starting to recognize that he does, then it's worse than his using her coldheartedly with no feelings involved. But I think this week's episodes are going to throw us even more questions so let's see what happens first. :)
Thanks, and likewise. :) Not going to be easy, but I really hope this doesn't fall apart in the end like many other k-dramas. It's riveting and I've never felt so engaged in quite some time.
