So, I burned through Into the Wild last night. It's been a while since I just up and devoured a book like that... felt damn good. The novel was enthralling, but more like a nasty car wreck than anything. The biographer hailed his subject as a transcendent, more than we mere mortals could ever hope to be. Some people simply lack the ability to comprehend how their actions affect others. It is indeed infuriating, but one must try to grasp how the person viewed the world before claiming he did these things on purpose.

I should note I haven't read the book or seen the movie, though I did see trailers for the movie and have a general idea what the story was about. If I am wrong about any of my assumptions, please correct me.

I, too, have had problems not thinking about other people when doing things (thankfully nothing as drastic as what happened in the story, but there have been times that I've battled within myself for days to not just pick up and leave for the mountains). Part of it is my NLD. This is something I have put much thought and time into correcting since my early 20s, but the issue is so deeply rooted in me to be almost instinctual.

Thankfully almost. Nobody is perfect, but I wish I could be less flawed.

Up
