If I am not mistaken, it is custom to bring a gift of some kind to a housewarming party. As I am something of a connoisseur of sweets, is there anything particular you might be craving so far from home? I believe I may have a platter of sweet red bean cakes that I've been saving. Or maybe just manju?

That's very generous of you!

I neither need nor expect my guests to bring gifts. However, the pastries I've ordered for the party are exclusively Western - to celebrate my new Western home, you see. If you can bear to part with something, it might be a treat for my new friends to have the opportunity to try a Japanese confection!

Whenever you'd like, we can meet. Preferably before the party, but I don't think there's much of a rush, to be honest. So long as I take an interest, the powers that be can't say too much.
