Fei Long watches as Asami gathers Akihito into his arms where the younger man holds on for dear life. He sees relief creeps into Asami’s previously emotionless eyes at the discovery that his lover is in a good health, though not exactly perfect. It is easy to tell how Akihito feels; the young man practically glows with happiness. He is rash, untactful, too caring, to trusting and too forgiving for his own good. Akihito wears his heart on his sleeves. As he rejoices in finally being in the arms of his lover again, there is a pleasant aura around the fair-haired man that makes Fei Long choke on nothing.
He does not know when exactly it started, but his heart aches for Akihito. He went from dislike to annoyance to tolerable and finally adoration and admiration against Fei Long's conscious. It is unquestionably funny that the inexplicable Stockholm Syndrome has been reversed - where the captive sympathizes with the captor, the effect is reversed on Fei Long. He, the captor, is the one who falls for his captive instead. He wonders if Akihito knows how he really feels.
When Asami extends his hand, Fei Long accepts it with a melancholic smile. Akihito beams, happy that the misunderstanding between them is finally resolved. It makes him sad knowing that he will not have Akihito around anymore once he returns to Hong Kong. Tao will be sad too, for Akihito left without saying goodbye. Things will change now that the animosity has died out. Fei Long can finally let his heart rest after years of being tortured by vengeance and ill judgments. Still, he wonders how long will it take for him to forget the feelings he has for Akihito.
He blinks in surprise when Akihito takes his hand and beams his charming smile at him. “Now that you don’t have to think about your vengeance anymore, I hope you find happiness in your life.”
Fei Long wants to cry. He wants to take Akihito into his arms like Asami did, and he wants to cry on Akihito’s shoulder. He wants to let Akihito know that he has found salvation in his tears when Akihito cried for him that one night a few days ago. He wants to apologise for all the pain he inflicted on the younger man too; but words fail him. Instead, he leans in to kiss Akihito lightly on his lips, disregarding whatever it is Asami might say.
With a genuine “Thank you” and “Sorry for everything” whispered against Akihito’s lips, Fei Long turns away from the two men that have brought changes into his life in more ways than one.
It is time to start anew and search for the happiness Akihito wishes him to find.
