i know at least several of you are fans out there, so i'll ask: if a person was to read only one joan didion novel, which would you recommend and why?
i want to start reading her, but i don't have much free time.
thank you.

The Year of Magical Thinking is the first work of hers I've read and though I started it a long time ago I still haven't managed to finish it. . .

slouching towards bethlehem is my absolute favorite.

but it's not a novel, it's short essays.

but if it's a novel you so desire, read play it as it lays. that's my favorite novel!

btw, i like how i'm still thinking about this two hours later. you don't know how excited this entry made me. haha.

my pal who is a big didion fan says:

"Play It As It Lays because it's brief, it's full of misery, and it's beautifully written."

& also slouching towards bethlehem. xo
