4.4. Would that be The Odyssey? Odysseus' men didn't all perish at Charybdis, but certainly they passed by it and Odysseus was ultimately the only survivor of their journey.

11.5. I think this might be Catherine Earnshaw from Wuthering Heights; it sounds familiar.

17.9. I don't know the character's name, but he is the very model of a modern major-general.
