Last Thursday's episode: here.

It was another short one. I for one was so tired I could barely keep my bloody eyes open... and it was not one of our best. But the topics were still interesting:

Nematodes and life longevity;
New HIV vaccine (strictly speaking, an SIV vaccine) shows promise;
A genetic link to depression found;
Sitting on one's Read more... )

science, science on top, photos, podcast, random shite

Haha I've seen the Ford Nucleon before, amazing the optimism of the 1950s when anything nuclear was the future.

I still can't believe they thought it was a valid idea, though. "Hey guys! I know what we'll do! We'll put a nuclear reactor in the back of a moving vehicle that any idiot can drive and crash!"

Can you imagine how much you'd shit yourself if someone rear-ended you, even if it were only a little ding?

It's something you can imagine being driven over a post-apocalyptic, abandoned highway, isn't it? ;)

The apocalypse might have been caused by a few million of these damn things in the first place...

haha No doubt! It would be neat to see a modern energy efficient version of that model, or other vintage cars, since most of 'em look so cool!

Part of the reason I am grossly behind on listening to these is because my headphones have been gradually deteriorating over the years and I'm now to the point of having a single ear-phone that I have to manually hold to my ear. But, dammit, listening to shit is important, and so I shall sacrifice from my food budget (since I"m getting fucking fat anyway) to buy more! And then shall I listen to these since my brain has been getting flabby as well ever since leaving college *deep breath*.

How have you been?

I hope you enjoy them, but for christ's sake don't not eat! ;)

I know what you mean about brain getting flabby. That's part of the reason I'm doing it - since leaving science (workwise anyway) I've felt my brain getting not just flabby but positively obese. I seem to have trouble reading up on stuff sometimes but it's fun talking about it all.

Apart from that, I'm fine. A bit bored with life in general, but fine. Like you, I've been largely off LJ, mostly because I seem to have very little say...
