The metal albums of 2011 - the good, the meh, the bad and the WHAT THE FUCK?

I already did this in Faecesbook because, well, I'm lazy, and it was easier. But damn it, I keep saying I'm going to stay off that shitty enabling social network of doom, and I'll be damned if I don't at least half get that right. So here we are, with album art and a youtube clip for each (well, if I can find one - I'm not going through all the ( Read more... )

anti-everything-other-people-like, music, sanctimonious so-and-so, amateurish reviewing, youtube, boring shit no one will read, tl;dr, bands that suck arse, the gods made heavy metal

Let it be known that I just read all of it and will be listening to each track once I'm at a computer and don't have to worry about going over my phone's data plan. Of all the metal people I know (much as I love some of them) and all the top 10 lists I'm aware of (much as I'm sure some have great taste), yours is pretty much the only list that has more than 2-3 bands I actually give a damn about. Based on this and previous discussions I'm pretty sure our tastes in metal are damn close as well so here's at least one reassuring comment letting you know that your efforts were not in vain.

Heh, thanks mate! I was largely joking, but it is nice to hear that someone appreciates the effort!

Meanwhile, talking about phone data plans: for some bloody reason my home Internet has decided to shit itself and I'm using my precious bugger-all allocation on my phone instead. I CAN SEE ERRORS AND I CAN'T EDIT THEM PROPERLY....

I too was less than impressed by the new Pentagram... understandably it's like Bobby's worn out, but damn it could they have put some FEELING into it??

Also, I didn't know about new Lord Vicar. DO WANT.

In turn, I kept forgetting to give the new Gates of Slumber a try... perhaps because I'm still looking for the best of their back catalogue to check out, first.

I think with Pentagram they were trying for a more professional approach. Which just doesn't work for Pentagram: never has, never will.

You'll love the new Lord Vicar! The more I think about it, the more I should have made it a "top 15 or 20", because damn that album deserves to be in there.

I enjoyed the new Lord Vicar a fair bit, but it wasn't a top-10 for me, either. I loved the new Sabbat. As for the disappoints, no arguments from me. The Opeth album, I couldn't even finish. So boring.

I was much more emotional about the Gods Tower album. I'll never understand why bands decide to turn shit, and not just a little bit shit, but shit of choleric proportions.

Bad news: Blood Lust was released in an uber-limited pressing of 300 copies, sold out in like a day, and copies are now going in excess of $100 on eBay. I'm probably just as pissed about it as you are.

OH GOD DAMN IT.

Hopefully they'll reissue it, in more than a piddly number like 300. Especially when they see that they're going for that much...

Let me know what you think!
