I like to post auctions on days when more people will be home. Mondays & Tuesdays = good. Fridays & Saturdays = bad.
I like to post auctions around 9-11PM. That way everyone in the US who has a 9-5 job has a better chance of being home and by a computer.
Download eBay's Turbolister here. It lets you set up auctions ahead of time (so you can launch tens, hundreds, etc later all at one time). If you list a bunch of things together, you stand a good chance of having repeat buyers who will bid the prices up so they can get a break on shipping.
Turbolister also allows you to automatically calculate shipping costs and, with certain items, can generate an automatic listing with picture and info just using hte product's UPC code.
thank you, youre really helpful! I have 3 dooney and bourke purses and one of thems vintage their worth is in the 200-300 range. Someone told me to start the bid at a couple dollars and then itll climb? y/n? I also have a baby grand piano that I wanna sell via ebay. Is there anything special I should do? I was looking at some pianos and it seems a lot have no bids and some have 23 or 30. Any ideas?
There are two trains of thought when it comes to pricing:
1. Start the opening bid very low. Hopefully people will bid the price of the item up. But, if it's not a rare find and there are plenty of them being auctioned off on ebay already ... then buyers will just bid elsewhere. Then you end up selling the item for very low because no one really bid (you can solve this with a reserve price - but this can turn people off to your auction)
2. Start the bidding at price you'd like to get. You probably won't get a lot of bidders here but, if someone really likes what you're selling ... you may get their bid.
Either way, if your price is lower than market price, you'll sell.
Bidding gets hot in the last 24 hours ... so expect the unexpected!
The two basic suggestions I have are just: 1. To ensure maximum bids, make sure you spell the item correctly (An obvious one, but a lot of people make mistakes and hence, A Nintendo 'Wee' gets sold to some lucky smuck for $5.00.)
and
2. Don't oversell with the description. It seems desperate if you're trying to really hype up whatever you're selling - give an accurate and helpful description, though positive terms about its functionality or possible uses will obviously be appreciated. Capslock is probably a bad idea, unless you want to look like you're a true auctioneer, I guess.
I personally have only purchased items on e-bay, but as a buyer there are things I look out for when it comes to what I am bidding on.
Thank you! I think the description and spelling is probably key. I revised my description a bit as to sound more helpful and less verbose. Thank you again!
oh man, I have sold everything I have ever put on there. first of all. look up what your selling in the highest price range....always have a picture....and well...I had some...unethical tactics as well
Life was rather shitty, but now things are pertty good. I was just thinking about you the other day while looking at your journal ;) <---- oh no, im actually using smileys. How are you?
I'm okay. I can't complain too much although I still manage. I can't believe you still read my LJ, for some reason. I was thinking of you the other day. My boss mentioned Ani and I was like wow how is Theresa and what happened to her anyway. Glad things are good, though. We should maybe try to catch up for real sometime, if you're ever up for it.

Might I recommend posting the piano on Craigslist?
