Wow! I've just been reading a bunch of peoples political views and religious beliefs, It has reminded me of why people don't normally talk about these issues. People are so passionate about their beliefs that they don't really want to back down or listen to the other perspective. I was thinking about "Listening" the other day and I think in general people pretend to listen. They are quiet while the other person is talking but really they are just waiting till they are finished so they can say what they think. I'm as guilty of this as the next person. I think truly listening is hard because you become vulnerable by actually considering their beliefs or ideas. Real listening I think is being prepared to change your mind after you have heard all the facts. I think people don't usually want to change their minds. People are comfortable with what they know and believe and don't want to change.
(If I start talking about Blake and White now, I can make this an official post)
In our literature class we have been trying to listen to what Blake (and White) have to say. They are giving us their perspective on life, religion, political, social beliefs. As we listen to what they say we respond and LJ is a great place for us to do that. Sometimes people agree, sometimes people don't. Its interesting to look at the different perspectives and realise how different we are.
Different perspectives
Its great to have artists like Blake that get us thinking about various issues and he has some great ideas, but in the end he is just another person, he is just like us.
