Everyone that knows us knows we have an enthusiastic border collie named Shadow. She's a very sweet dog, smart, and definitely part of the family

I have an old college friend who has been an epileptic since she was 16 months old (Spinal menenghitis w/brain damage, not good). She and my other college buddy have been married for twenty years (in Jan) and they have seven cats. They've had as many as 9 and as few as one during the course of their courtship and marriage. She has nasty little pettite-maul seisures--she doesn't know she's in one until she's back awake again. All seven of their current batch of kitties know when Jodie is about to go into a seisure. They have been known to corral her on her bed (or the couch or her chair) and all of them will lay on her so she can't move easily.
Its kind of weird, but it seems to work and they do know when she's having an episode and are quite pro-active about keeping her from hurting herself and wandering off. This doesn't help if she's out in the yard, though.
Our Sheltie is quite sensitive to both L and Z when they're having neurologically off days, too.
