Congrats on the concerto competition! I did AU's one year and I was SO pissed when I didn't get to second round. SO pissed. Oh well.

Do you know what piece your flute friend did?

Thank you! Apparently making it past the first round here is a pretty big deal here as I've been getting lots of congrats around the school and people coming up to talk to me that I've never met before. I'm surprised AU didn't take you as I'm sure you had to be one of the best ww players there.

I was trying to search on Amazon for the flute piece Erica is playing... it's 20th century and the way I've heard her say it would lead me to spell it like "Martan" but obviously that isn't quite right. I'll try to get the spelling.

Hmmmm maybe "Ballade" by Frank Martin. 20th Century, french. Maybe...

I don't know what their deal was. I had really good comments save for one person (the string teacher). My friend Adrian who was the orchestra manager at the time told me that it was because I was a grad student and they wanted to have their own undergrads in (they didn't have performance as a masters there).

Oh well. I played Carmen and would've loved to perform, but if I had won I would've had to be up there this year playing, which would be difficult!
