My favorite thing this week has been the vegitarian/vegan/animal rights installation in the cross-way by Tripolini and Baker that has pictures comparing the abuse of animals to the abuse of African and African American slaves.
"So... you're saying black people are basically livestock?"
Not that I disagree with their message, you know, that the meat and fur industries are disgusting and wrong, but, you know, the way they're trying to communicate that message isn't exactly appropriate for a campus that sports a less-than-5% African American population.
Yes!! I hate that!! I want to tell them "I am a vegetarian and I am disgusted that you are trying to represent my beliefs with that display." But I haven't. It is far too similar to the "Genocide Awareness" project that puts up similar lynching photos next to pictures of aborted fetuses. Freedom of speech, fine, but you are comparing apples and oranges. Bleh.
Most of the time campus is so friendly and cozy, that it is all the more disturbing to have to walk by that obscenity on my way to work/class. :(
