Katherine's Birth Story

Feb 04, 2013 08:33

Saturday morning, February 2, I began passing small bits of mucous plug. I was 36w1d at the time. Throughout the day, I continued seeing mucous, usually just clear tinted pink.

This is VERY long, so if you get through this, THANK YOU for reading. I promise I will have pictures soon! )

So glad you were able to have the VBAC you wanted, even if it was medicated. There is no shame in that whatsoever! It makes sense that it could help you relax and dilate more.

Good luck with breastfeeding. I found it was much easier the second time around. I hope you find it that way too. It's understandable that there might be issues, especially pre-term, but keep trying. You can do it!! You're not broken!! lol

The silver lining of Katie being too sleepy to nurse is that she's not chewing me to pieces like Naomi did, LoL. With her being under bilirubin lights so much, I'm getting lots of quiet time and plenty of opportunities to rest. After as long as I went without sleep, I think that's going to be a huge benefit to me. Sleep deprivation was definitely a factor in how things went with Naomi!

Sleep deprivation is a HUGE factor! I found that to be true with both children. At least this second time around I was more prepared for how awful it is. I hope you're still able to rest now that your home. Does she have to wear the blanket with the lights in it? Or are you all done with the jaundice?

She doesn't need lights right now, but we have a follow-up with our doctor tomorrow afternoon. I'm not sure she's all done though, because she's had ONE wet diaper since we brought her home. One. No dirty diapers at all. She's nursing a lot better, but the diaper thing concerns me for sure. Now, it may just be that she was preterm and it's taking her stomach a little longer to grow past "marble" size, I dunno.

As for sleep, she's a GREAT sleeper so I am able to get in plenty of naps. I'm just stubborn and don't like to sleep if I don't absolutely have to, LoL.

You did a great job, mama! After 2 natural births, I also had a super long labor where I consented to an epidural after a long time (almost 48 hours) to rest and finish dilating with pitocin. It wasn't what I planned, but it was what she and I needed at that moment, and I don't regret it at all. I hope the two of you figure out your breastfeeding relationship well and on your own terms.
