I just have images of it becoming manic-depressive (y'know: 'this processing is mine all mine and it amazing and massive and *everything* oh god its such a burden I can't take it anymore' etc.) or maybe just scitzophrenic enough to lose all the really important data, but keep the useless stuff

I'm with this guy, "unstable" calls up images of mental instability more than physical instability to me... Of course, um, right, never mind.
