For Bart. Bart knows why. Post CFUD, DCU/Runaways+Buffy.
"But it's a really good idea!"
"Molly--"
"No, Nico, she's right."
"See? Chase gets it."
"Molly, very few good arguments start like that."
"I'm wounded, babe. And it is a good idea."
"Yeah, it is."
"This is--"
"It's not our home! Mom an' dad aren't here and this place is really dumb! I don't wanna be here anymore! An' if we go live with Bart we can go to school an' everything!"
"You can go to school."
"It wouldn't hurt to try it, would it, Nico? We can always come back."
Nico yielded slightly. "A week. We'll go for a week."
"Awesome!"
Bart was pacing. Bart was pacing at superspeed, which meant that he was going to kill the carpet in about two seconds.
Kon reached out and stopped him without looking away from Mario Kart. "Chill."
"But Molly's gonna call soon and maybe I'm gonna hafta go get them and I have to be really ready so I can get them here really quick and tell Robin to get the rooms ready so they'll like it and wanna stay and--"
"Bart," said Buffy. "They live in a weird cave under the La Brea tarpits. There is no way this is not going to be an improvement."
"But!"
The communicator rang. Bart was over there before Buffy actually heard the first ring. "Hello? You can? Okay! Yeah, I'll come get you right now and Robin and Kon and Buffy can make sure the rooms are ready and stuff okay? Yeah! Bye!"
Bart took the time to say "gogetstuffreadypleaseI'mgonnagetthem" and then jetted.
"Young love," commented Kon, smirking.
"Nice digs, kid," commented Chase.
"D'you like it?" Bart asked, looking at everyone but really only talking to Molly. "Robin said it was okay to stay as long as you want to and there's lots of room and everything!"
"It's really cool, Bart!"
Nico muttered something about kids, but Chase slung his arm around her cheerfully. "It's nice, Nico. We could do real stuff. Go out on the street. This could be good."
"Seconding Chase," said Gert. "They've even got a place for Old Lace."
"An' I could go to school and everything! And Bart said he'd help with my homework."
Bart turned somewhat reddish.
"We'll stay for now," said Nico. "To try it."
Kon, as a rule, didn't like being woken up in the middle of the night, but when he slept at YJ headquarters, it happened. Because he was the one with superhearing, and Buffy was the one who slept like a rock, so when people knocked, he was the one who heard.
"Yeah?" he asked, cracking the door and trying to keep it down.
"You seen Mol?" asked Chase.
"It's three a.m., dude. Why would I be seeing Molly?"
Chase didn't have an answer for this.
"Did you ask Bart?"
"Dude, I don't wanna know what Mol's doing with him at three."
"It's Bart."
"I passed your room first."
"Go check there," said Kon, closing the door in his face. Buffy blinked at him. "Thought that wouldn't get you up," he said, much more gently. "Sorry."
"Sokay. I'm kind of a light sleeper."
"You are?" he asked, climbing back into the bed.
"Well, when I'm at home," she replied, already snuggling into him.
"Why not here?"
"Cuz you're here to protect me," she replied, smiling.
Kon couldn't help grinning.
Chase found Molly curled up on Bart's bed with her homework open, her pen in her mouth. Someone had pushed a blanket over her crookedly, and Bart was sitting backward in his chair, his chin on the back, obviously having fallen asleep watching her.
Chase picked up a blanket and slung it over Bart's shoulders.
"Kids these days."
Bart bought Molly a panda hat on his school trip to the zoo because he saw it and he thought of her, and he had trouble explaining to his classmates who he was buying it for. Bart didn't have words for what Molly was. Especially if he had to maintain his secret identity. So he said it was a friend and knew that wasn't quite right the whole time.
When he gave her the hat, she hugged him and put it on right away.
Bart didn't get flippy stomach feelings when Buffy hugged him.
"Kon?"
"Yeah?"
"What's it mean if I have a dream where I'm married to Molly and we have two Speedster kids and one of them turns into a gorilla and crushes Tokyo but then it fights Nazi Dinosaurs and saves the princess?"
"It means you're growing up."
"Does it mean I don't like Tokyo?"
"That too."
It was really just one second. Molly was wearing her panda hat and chewing the top of her eraser, sitting at Bart's desk because she liked it better than hers. And Bart just looked up and realized he didn't ever want to be anywhere else.
And that was when he knew.
Then he forgot.
*hugs*
