Can you explain amendment 3 to me in any way, shape, or form? I've been trying to figure out which way to vote on it for two weeks now, and I'm still confused. (I'm good on all the rest.)

*thinks*

OK. You and C install hurricane windows in your house. Having them could make your insurance rates go down a bit because you are taking precautions to protect your home.

Great right?

With the current system of property taxes though the improvements would factor into it as "work done on the house" which would add to it's value. You would then be taxed on the new (higher) value of your property because of the hurricane windows. Just as if you had done anything else to make the house better and more valuable.

So you guys pay a higher rate because you have made your home worth more.

The amendment actually calls for these sorts of things to be exempt. They can't be considered when assessing the value of your home for taxation purposes.

There has been a "renewable energy source" exemption in place and this would continue it and expand that exemption to other improvement work to your property.

Make sense?
