Treading that line between theatricality and historical accuracy...

So I am becoming increasingly involved in a project that shouldn't be as new-fangled as it is appearing. I'm working with the Director of St. George's Guild (those who play Queen and Court at No. Cal events) on the radical idea of presenting a faire as visually historically accurate.

Shocking, right?

I mean to have a properly outfitted Elizabethan ( Read more... )

16th century, faire

I totally would (and especially with you there!)...if it didn't land smack-dab on the first weekend of the only multi-weekend event we still try to make it to. :(

No bad on Rydell, I appreciate that he found exactly what he was looking for (an event with other folks to run it that put him in charge of the history). We'll see what happens with the dates for next year.

Besides, my uncle lives in that town so we'd totally have a place to stay if we came up for the event.

Of course, new costumes would be in order...

Being a Kentwellie, anything as authentic as possible is always something I would love to see (though of course, its a bit of a trek for me to come and visit in the USA)!

Perhaps you should have a research trip to the UK and see what Kentwell does?? ;-)

I've chatted with folks from Kentwell and we absolutely use your program there as an example to folks that, yes, history can draw an audience.

I would LOVE to come to Kentwell and would love to be able to pick your brain once in a while if that's ok....

Of course you can pick my brain once in a while. Feel free to do so.

Who have you chatted with from Kentwell?

Well, yes!! and if I can, I want to be involved. Just not sure I can make the workshops as Rydell mentioned his current ideas on the Snobs Tribe, but I can at least join the yahoogroup and see what all will end up being planned.

Eep, seems it was a Facebook group, which works even better in some ways, not as well in other ways. Surprised Rydell went that way considering his grumbles about FB.

I think it sounds super interesting from a performer perspective! I just joined the Facebook group and will try to keep up with the plans.

PS Bella Donna were talking about going, but I actually wonder to what degree we'd fit the vision of the faire? And part of me is wanting to make a butter churn-y (read: lower class wool) outfit and come help with the laundry or other crafty-ness instead.

@demode - I need villagers and would love to see yellow wool. Maybe have a few of the ladies for court? I need strong theatrical folks to portray English (which I count you among them).
