People our age who are married or expect their current relationship to be permanent kinda creep me out, not least because so many of the ones I'm acquainted with seem to be perpetually in conflict.

That's probably the rational response. It's just so hard to be rational when faced with all the frothy, soft-focus pictures of happy brides and grooms.
