Y'know, my dad called to bug me about it yesterday.
It seems to me that thank you notes are rather meaningless, since they tend to be a forced exercise.
I always get nervous when people thank me for something that I found to be easy (this includes sending money).
I do have a hard time being grateful, but that's because I have a hard time accepting gratitude. Not complaining about a gift is enough for me.
Then again, I hate Hallmark cards as a general rule. Thank yous, birthday cards (as anything more than a lark), etc. Announcements are okay, because they serve practical purpose (updates, formal invites, etc.), but seriously, if I cared enough to send a card, I'd keep personal touches with you and the card would unnecessary. If I need a card to show love or appreciation, there's something wrong with the relationship.
