Thankfully I only have to deal with these idiots for another week. ResNet now requires AV software, which I already use, current Virus Definitions, which mine update daily...but also current Microsoft patches, of the 25 I know at least 5 or 6 that I was immune to, AND to have automatic updates turned on. I have left that off for a reason...but

Wow ... I can understand AV software, and even some required patches ... but having automatic updates turned on? You're screwed if you have pirated Windows.

Hell, at that point, I'd switch to Linux.

I assume that having the updates on is probably entirely to make sure people are using legal copies of Windows. With that whole thing of checking that data now, it's not surprising. I guess you could turn it on to check the updates but never take the ones you don't need, but then it reminds you every 5 fucking minutes about how you need to get them. Fucking Windows....

They require the automatic updates turned on because they felt not enough people were getting the updates manually. Of course MS wont give you any of the updates if you do not have a genuine copy of windows...so the campus doesn't even have to worry about if the OS is legit or not. They just block the access, and the computer becomes a glorified MP3 player that can type papers.

I agree with Evox3, if I had to be here another year I would stop using windows. Would really fuck with me too since linux doesn't support any of my cool hardware...like 3d Accelleration...the soundcard...the printer...
