I left out video game characters because there's generally very little actual confrontation between the hero and villain until the boss fight at the end. A good villain should interact with the hero multiple times over the course of several adventures, there should be personal reasons for their fight.

Mother Brain was a game mechanic, not a character.

Again, I think this comes back to our discussion about the definition of "rival".

But yes, some of those are a bit stronger than others, but I'm just trying to get as open a playing field as possible.
