Oh no! This is your dog Andy? I hope you can work something out!

My lease says 'no pets' but I see other tenants have numerous cats. I wish Max and I could get a dachshund, but they are barkers and it just probably wouldn't fly. And our apartment is too reasonably priced, we can't afford to give it up right now. But when I look into the eyes of that dachshund (and do I see another one in the background of the photo?!) I just want to do whatever it takes.

yah its so heart wrenching right now. andy got into a fight with our other dog anais on friday night. it was bad. he had never shown aggression to her before and he latched onto her ear and wouldnt let go. i thought he was going to tear it off, he was completely vicious and terrifying. after he finally let go he sorta just snapped back to being the little wiggle butt guy that he normally is. its been a really emotional weekend just trying to figure out the best course of action. i dont want to give him up but i also cant risk that kind of behavior again.

Oh, that sounds terrible! I can see how you'd be torn, it's probably hard to look at him the same way after seeing him behave that way.

If only dogs and people spoke the same language and you could reason with him!

That's a good idea, but I couldn't do it with my bad allergies. One short-haired dog is about all I could take.

The article says that one over-crowded shelter will be shut down and others will need significant improvement. I kept thinking about how the shelters are kind of like nursing homes: over-crowded, under-funded, and how stressed the staff is doing what they can with what they have... it's all very sad.
