When I lived in Puerto Rico as a kid, I remember they had Three Kings Day in January.

I think the St Nicks thing must be almost exclusively Wisconsin/Midwest. My colleague from Wisconsin was talking about this as well. Doesn't it come from Sinterklaas (the Dutch tradition)? Yeah I think so. But seems not to be a popular thing in the rest of the US. :)

Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of gift-giving, especially to those suffering hardship, those in need, and children. It's a very old tradition.

Yes, thank you! Funny how you can look forward to soemthing as a kid, and not know what it even is or why it's happening. And then later, my mom can't even explain it to me! ha ha
