Name: Wally
Age: 18 as of now
Hometown/Region: Petalburg City of Hoenn.
Class: Trainer, although according to the Trainer's Eyes on the Poke'Nav, he's registered as "PKMN Lover" as well. ^^
Team: Gardevoir, Delcatty, Altaria, and as of the past years, as I'm sure he's evolved them by now, Roserade and Magnezone. He also has acquired over the years a Gastrodon, which is, of course, pink. XD
History:
I've spoken to May, Brendan, Barry, and Green's muns, so everything should be a-ok!
Wally was once a young boy that grew up in the city of Petalburg with his parents. He had a relatively normal, happy childhood, except for one thing: Wally was very sickly, especially with always having trouble breathing at times. Thus, he didn't get to play outside very much and his parents were always constantly worried about him and whether he was okay or not, hovering over him making sure that he took his medication and kept an inhaler on him at all times, making sure he didn't wear himself out too much. When it came close for his coming of age and being old enough to acquire a Pokemon, his parents decided to send him to Verdanturf to live with his aunt and uncle, where the air there would supposedly be cleaner and easier to breathe in comparison to Petalburg, however this may or may not of been their way of trying to dissuade Wally from acquiring a Pokemon from Professor Birch and leaving on his own, believing that he was too sick to be able to travel.
However, Wally would not give up-after all, he had grown up watching other kids leave on their journeys with their Pokemon they acquired, looking happy and determined...Wally wanted to be like them, wanted to have a Pokemon and learn to become independent on his own: it was his dream. Eventually, his parents caved on this to let him have a Pokemon, but with one exception: they wanted him to go to the town's Gym Leader, Norman, and have him help Wally catch a Pokemon rather than him trying to catch one by himself before leaving to stay with his aunt and uncle in Verdanturf. Wally agreed to this, so that way he wouldn't be lonely while in Verdanturf, so he set out to go to Norman and ask him for help.
Enter May, daughter of Norman, who is at the gym when Wally arrives. At first, Norman seems hesitant to help Wally do to how sickly he is, but then decides to have May go out and help Wally catch his first Pokemon. The two of them head out into the tall grass just outside of Petalburg, and it is there with May's help that Wally manages to catch his very first Pokemon, a Ralts. Feeling proud of himself for being able to catch a Pokemon, Wally thanks May and Norman for their help, promising that he will take really good care of his Ralts before leaving to go head to Verdanturf.
So while in Verdanturf, Wally begins to bond with his Ralts, the two of them becoming very close. He and his Ralts start training together just outside of Verdanturf, becoming stronger together, and because of this, Wally himself seemed to become stronger in being able to recover much in terms of his illness. As they continued training, Wally began to dream of leaving Verdanturf to travel around Hoenn together with Ralts and become closer with Pokemon as a whole, starting with challenging the Mauville Gym in the next town over to prove to himself that he had become stronger. However, his aunt and uncle, much like his parents, thought that, while he had indeed become a stronger person from his training with Ralts, felt that he was pushing it to challenge a gym.
Not to be deterred, Wally went to the Mauville Gym anyway, his uncle coming along with him to make sure that he would be alright and to attempt to talk him out of it. It is then that he sees May again, the very person who helped him catch his Ralts from before. In order to convince both May and his uncle that he had gotten better, he asked May to have a battle with him in order to prove himself. May agrees and the two have their first battle against each other. Wally loses, however, which seems to enlighten him that it's not enough to just battle with Pokemon-it's not all what being a real Trainer is about. He thanks May for battling with him and agrees to go back to Verdanturf with his uncle instead of battling against Watson. His uncle tells him not to feel discouraged from the loss, that he will become a stronger trainer someday before the two head back home.
At first, Wally seemed to believe this, continuing to stay in Verdanturf with his aunt and uncle. But soon, he began to wish to travel through Hoenn again with his Ralts, that going on a journey on his own and bonding further with his Pokemon would make him a stronger trainer rather than just battling at home-he wanted to be a strong trainer like May. His family was deadset against this though, worried about his illness and stating that he wouldn't be able to take care of himself on his own if he left. It grew to the point that as it seemed like he'd never be allowed to leave despite his determination. So one night, before anyone was wiser and without leaving a message, Wally had packed his things and had run away from home with his Ralts.
And thus, Wally began his journey on his own, traveling from place to place throughout Hoenn as he battled and caught new Pokemon to add to his team, growing closer with them in the process. Despite his illness, he manages to keep himself going, learning to become more independent and capable of taking care of himself and his Pokemon, including that of a Delcatty, a Magneton, a Roselia, and an Altaria in addition to his Ralts, who soon evolves into a Gardevoir.
Luckily, he managed to have little to no run-ins with the likes of Team Magma or Aqua, although, as things began to grow strange such as odd weather between blazing hot sunshine or a downpour of intense rain, he continued to keep up his strength and morale for his Pokemon as things seemed to fix themselves. (He learned that it was actually his friend May that had put a stop to it sometime later)
Soon enough, Wally had made his way to Victory Road of Ever Grande City to train and prepare challenging even the League. There, he found and challenged May, who had arrived to challenge the League as well. He wanted to prove to her that he become braver and stronger than the last time they had met. After an intense battle, May beats Wally, but Wally is still determined that he'll catch up to his friend and rival May someday, choosing to stay and train with his Pokemon for a long time in Victory Road.
After about a year or two of training around Ever Grande City and locations just outside of the city, (considering breathing that cave air all the time can't be too good for you), Wally believed that he was strong enough to begin traveling to other regions outside of Hoenn-however, he did not return home to inform his family of this decision, under the impression that he might be talked out of it: that he was still too sick to be traveling so much, that he doesn't know what the air is like in other regions, he could get worse if he left Hoenn. Wally felt that he had his illness under control-while he still and would always have trouble with breathing sometimes, he had his Pokemon with him that would make sure that he didn't push himself too hard like they always had for him. But he was afraid that his family wouldn't approve anyway, seeing as he had run away from home and all just to be able to travel Hoenn on his own.
So, after some consideration, Wally decided to travel to the Sinnoh region to go farther in his abilities as a trainer. (And, because Sinnoh was the farthest region away from Hoenn) While in Sinnoh, Wally gets the idea to train at Mt. Coronet, much like how he did much of his training at Victory Road in Hoenn. As he trained and leveled up his Pokemon there, his Magneton soon evolved into a Magnezone, much to Wally's surprise and happiness. However, he found that he really couldn't stay in Mt. Coronet for very long, due to the fact that, in comparison to Victory Road, Mt. Coronet is...well, a mountain, and his health issues really couldn't take the high elevation in addition to breathing in cave spores all the time, forced to make due with staying in Celestic Town for his mountain training for the time being.
Soon, Wally learns of the Sinnoh Battle Frontier, deciding to take a shot at it to see how much stronger he had gotten. Upon arriving at the Sinnoh Frontier, he runs into May again, who had also traveled to Sinnoh to take up training there after becoming the Pokemon Champion and losing to Green (the former Pokemon Champion for about a week in Kanto) in Hoenn. The two of them partner up and compete like old times at the Frontier, even having his Gardevoir compete against May's Gallade that she acquires in Sinnoh at one point. (Which then leads into some real awkwardness involving May's Gallade having a crush on Wally's Gardevoir...only to find out that his Gardevoir is male. Cue hilarity and drama from now on everytime they see each other) They do very well, double-teaming together to take on brains like Caitlin and Darach while they're there.
While at the Sinnoh Frontier, Wally and May had met Barry, a hyperactive kid who happened to be the son of one of the Frontier Brains, Palmer. If he had thought May was kind of hyper sometimes, Barry takes it up to eleven, which leads to sometimes awkward conversations with Wally wondering where Barry gets all that energy from and why he insists on "fining him a million" for different, sometimes odd reasons, but they still get along well enough whenever they speak to each other, in a "being the calmer one" kind of friendship role with Barry. (Almost like he kind of does for May sometimes, who at this point he looks up to and admires like that of an older sister)
After the Sinnoh Frontier, Wally wasn't sure what to do next. He could always take on gym challenges if he wanted to, maybe. There was taking a shot at coordinating and participating in contests as well.
Then there was his relatives back home that still had no idea where he was right now.
However, Wally, 13 as of then, was still nervous about coming home and seeing them again, afraid that they would be disappointed in him for leaving like he had-in fact, the idea of their disappointment in him was enough to stress him out and bring coughing fits. As strong as he had become on his own, he wasn't sure he was ready to "face the music" quite yet.
So he lingered behind in Sinnoh for quite a long time, instead of immediately following after May, who had decided to check out the Kanto and Johto regions. In the extra time he spent in Sinnoh, he had managed to train and evolve his Roselia into a Roserade from a Shiny Stone he found once while exploring and training on Iron Island, as well as deciding to train more in on Mt. Coronet, take on gym challenges, catch pokemon, participation in contests a little, and even occasional travel to Kanto to see the sights and occasionally seeing May every now and again-anything that could perhaps be taken as an excuse to keep him busy without needing to come home to Hoenn.
As he's currently considering traveling to Johto to explore the region, now at age 18, who knows where Wally's journey will take him from here...
Personality:
In the beginning, Wally was timid and shy around others due to the sheltered lifestyle he had initially grown up with under his parent's care, who were always worried about him and his illness, thus he didn't get out much and interact more with people outside of Petalburg until he had acquired his own Pokemon, causing him to be a bit more quiet and polite with people he met, oftentimes stuttering when trying to talk to others. As of the past years, he's gotten past most of his initial timid nature, having gained the confidence to interact more with people and Pokemon, but he's still very formal in his manner, very rarely stuttering like he used to before unless he's embarrassed or confused or the like. He rarely gets angry with people, save for in the case of dealing with people who do things like hurt or steal Pokemon.
Since the beginning of his travels, Wally has gained much more confidence in himself and his Pokemon, becoming a stronger person due to his determination and unwillingness to give up once he sets his mind on something. Very rarely he ever lets any losses get to him, picking himself right back up and promising that he'll get stronger until he overcomes his weaknesses. Some might think he may be a bit too obsessed with his need to be stronger sometimes considering how he spends a good chunk of his time training with his Pokemon, but Wally attributes his strength to the bonds he's made with his Pokemon and how they've gotten stronger together over the years. Because of this he loves Pokemon very much and is very close with his own Pokemon.
While his illness is still an issue sometimes, it's not as bad as it used to be in the beginning as he's learned what limits he has set for himself and knowing how to take care of himself without pushing himself too hard. Thanks to his training and traveling over the years, he has his respiratory problems under a reasonable amount of control where he'll be fine as long as he doesn't strain or stress himself out, plus he has his Pokemon with him to make sure he's alright and to keep him in shape.
However, despite the confidence he's gained over the years, there is one thing that continues to be a sore subject for him: his family back home in Hoenn and the fact he had run away from home just to be able to travel with his Ralts. Even though he's sure he's proven by now that he is capable of taking care of himself and that they don't need to worry about him, Wally is afraid that, considering the circumstances in which he had left, that they might be disappointed or angry with him-this fear has transcended to the point of being afraid to come back to Hoenn at all, less they ever found out he was around. So since his leaving for his journey, he hasn't once gone back to see them, the idea of what their reactions would be like enough to stress him out a bit and bring on a coughing fit. Thus he tries to keep his mind off of this line of thinking as much as possible.
He cares very deeply for his friends, especially May, his rival and someone he looks up to almost like that of an older sister. He looks out for his friends and is always willing to offer a hand to help, an ear to listen or give advice, or even just a Pokemon battle for fun and to liven things up. Sometimes he seems to serve as the calm/collected friend for a few of his more lively friends, like May and Barry, but he doesn't seem to mind.
All in all, Wally is a friendly soft-spoken boy who loves Pokemon and tries not to let his weaknesses and shortcomings get to him, keeping a positive outlook and looking ahead instead of lingering for long on the past in his efforts to become as close and strong as he can be with Pokemon.
Sample I:
[Voice; From a tree surrounded by angry Beedrill, might sound a bit rushed or trying not to sound panicked. Poor Wally.]
Um, hello? Anyone there? I appear to have run into a problem, aha...while Magnezone and I were training in the forest, we accidentally knocked down a Beedrill's nest with a stray attack, and well...I'm kind of stuck in a tree right now at the moment hoping the Beedrill will calm down and leave soon-oh wow, there's a lot of them-ah, no worries though, we're taking care of it and Magnezone's doing okay with helping to keep them back from us just in case.
...o-oh, they look really angry now...
...Erm, I-if you happen to be around the Viridan Forest area anyway, we really wouldn't mind some help!
Sample II:
[You have encountered a rare or otherwise desirable Pokémon, but have no Pokéballs on hand.]
From the edge of the lake that Wally and his Pokemon were sitting today, Wally was contemplative, trying to decide on his next course of action on what to do. He had recently just finished getting a badge from the Fuschia Gym, which left only a few gyms left in Kanto that he hadn't gotten badges from. But after that, what then? He had already gotten a good number of badges from Sinnoh...well, there was always going to Johto, but...
Right then though, distracting him from his thoughts, a Seaking suddenly poked up from the water of the lake, blinking eyes staring at him for a moment and causing Wally to immediately jump up. "Oh wow, a Seaking!"
Seaking were rare to find in lakes other than the lakes in the Safari Zone, and judging by the coloring of this one's fins, it appeared to be one of those special "shiny" Pokemon, so it was quite a find to see one right now poking its head up from the water and watching him.
I should try to catch it before it gets away!
But when Wally checked his pockets, however, he found that he had no empty poke'balls on hand to catch it with. Oh no, what do I do? Maybe I could knock it out and carry it with me until I get to the Poke'Mart? No, that would look strange and probably be uncomfortable for the Seaking...maybe I could have my Pokemon stay here and watch it to make sure it doesn't leave while I run to the Poke'Mart? ...But if it leaves, none of my Pokemon right now would be able to go after it into the lake...
While Wally was attempting to come up with a solution, the Seaking seemed to be observing him with mild interest before slowly sinking back into the water out of the corner of Wally's eye.
"W-wait, don't leave yet!" Wally called out to it, but the Seaking didn't pay any heed and disappeared back into the depths of the lake. Wally sighed as he sat back down on the edge of the lake, watching the disappearing ripples in its wake as he made a mental note to always keep at least a handful of poke'balls on him just in case of things like this happening again.
Oh wow this app got long. Anyway, if there's any problems or anything, please let me know!
