Miami is very acceptable, particularly for queer people. South Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the US, and Haulover Beach, in the same county, is a nude beach well-known for gay men. If they're not gay, those are still pretty damned popular places to go for it.
That could be a very handy tidbit of information, thank you! Is the strong queer culture there a recent development, do you know, or has it been the case for a longer period of time?
That's difficult for me personally to answer, since I was born the year they named it AIDS. So many people were so secret about it then. But my roommate informs me that his uncle, who was gay, had a house there. And I had an uncle who passed from GRID before I was born, who spent a...suspicious amount of time there, let's just say. Do I know if that's because it was a cultural thing, no. But it's a heck of a coincidence. There's probably great websites and books who can give you a clearer view than I can.
As far as I know, unless things have changed and goodness knows they might have because *I* don't devote much attention, like, at all, to Florida Spring Break--um, yeah. Ft. Lauderdamndale was the main destination. That may have changed.
According to a rec site for March, 2017, "the top 10 spring break beach cities were almost all in Florida. They are: Miami Beach (1), Panama City Beach (2), Daytona Beach (4), Clearwater Beach (5), Miramar Beach (9) and Fort Myers Beach (10)." So, Miami would work.
Awesome information, thank you! It's one of those instances where two disparate parts of my plot would fit together very nicely, but I am sometimes leery of the info that I find on the Internet. It's very helpful to get corroboration from people who have more experience with it than I do.
