A/N: Written for the 2014 round of spn_meanttobe for the following (really long) prompt:Beth Bradley has a problem. Everyone is expecting her successful music executive boyfriend, Charlie, to be her date for her best friend’s wedding. There’s one hitch: Charlie doesn’t exist. Unless she can think of something fast, she’s headed for the most humiliating weekend of her life.
Alex Tanner has a problem. The former Navy SEAL's search for a double agent lands him at the Kensington Hotel, and he needs a cover to finish the job. When the sexy maid of honour blackmails him into pretending to be her lover, he thinks he's been handed the solution.
Except Beth has a way of stumbling into trouble, and when the man Alex is hunting starts targeting Beth, Alex has to decide between duty and the woman who has stolen his heart.
A/N the Second: A million thank yous to becc_j for being fantastic and fun to work with and tolerant of me and my inability to manage my time in any effective way. Her art is absolutely gorgeous and I know for a fact that she spent a small eternity on those palms trees, to say nothing of the rest, so make sure you go and give her some much deserved love.
Kudos also to cassiopeia7 for her valuable insight into the world of scuba diving. Mostly I now want to try it out for myself. Anything that sounds like I know what I'm talking about can be chalked up to her expertise (and Youtube); the mistakes are all me.
And, of course, thanks to the wonderful tebtosca for resurrecting this challenge! It's been a cliché romantic delight!
Summary: This wedding was pretty much guaranteed to be a clusterfuck of monumental proportions even before Jared decided that it would be a good idea to convince a ridiculously good-looking spy to pretend to be his fiancé. Especially when Mr. Hot Spy has his own reasons for being at the resort. That might just get Jared killed. Sometimes, Jared makes really bad life choices.
