I just wanted to write that I am still, after 7 years or so of bring on lj (yeah I'm old-er than you!), so surprised that people can get mean to a "friend", on their friends list ( Read more... )

My friend Jenni is a member of the Dragon*con weight-loss com, called "dropbydragoncon" or something similar. She seems to like it. It might be cool to have a community for con-related fitness in general b/c I know that most people do more than one con a year.

hmm, i will have to search for that. I am a member of body for life, which is a cool group but not a lot of posters. a harry potter fitness group, which we are all friends now and hardly post on there anymore and then I try to fitness post but i really need to put it behind a cut, as not everyone wants to have to scroll past my stuff.

only 5 months left! what hotel are you staying at?

WOO! 190 days, or something. ;) We're staying at the Hilton and I am SO stoked. First year at a host hotel. I've been so envious of everyone with their D*C TV, but now it will be mine!

Where are you staying?

The "friend" concept on LJ is really misnamed. It's a cool concept, but could be described better-- all it really is is a container for reading particular entries in a consistent and entertaining way, as well as filtering your content for exclusive audiences ( ... )

great ideas!

Yeah, I am the worst at not putting behind a cut cut! I love the phrase "I cut because i care" LOL I really need to start using the cut thingies or getting a client i can work with.... grr, lazy!

really good ideas, I like the "socialtainment" word, very informative

anyway, you are a respectful person, always, in my knowledge anyway. marscon?

Not so Marscon. I get enough with CONvergence. And I still have to come up with a fitting facade for this year.

I disagree on the cut tags involving plain text. In the time that it takes for the browser to open the message and go back to the friends page, I can skim the message and decide whether I want to read more about it.

It might make more sense for a really long message, but it's usually not a big deal to hit the scroll bar a few times. I have been bewildered on some public communities when someone would post a lengthy message, and someone else would complain that it's not behind a cut tag.

I have the black gloves that you left at geohard and realsarah's house. Let me know when you would like to pick them up or when I can drop them off.

could you bring them at that time? thanks so much. It isn't like we live a few blocks away or anything!

One of my favorite communities that I've recently discovered is:

http://community.livejournal.com/whatwasthatbook/profile

It's helped me find a TON of books that I remember reading (or wanting to read) as a kid and not remembering the titles or authors. It's great to read some of the posts where the person finally finds the book they've been looking for.

I was one of those posts - looking for a book published in 1951 that I read as a little kid. It's been driving me nuts for 15 plus years and I finally found it thanks to that community.

ooooooh that sounds super cool. I should join it.

thanks for sharing. what do you think about a con centered fitness community?

eh, I'm kind of indifferent - to me - my 'fitness' world and 'con' worlds are so far removed from each other (not sure why, just how they are in my head) that i probably wouldn't join.

besides, when i'm at con, i'm on 'vacation' from exercise and diet (one of the few times i allow myself to go 'off-plan') so to me, the two are kind of diametrically opposed.

I rather like how Flickr does their networking. You have "Contacts" and within your "Contacts" you can have "Friends" and "Family." When you post photos, you can make them private, available to all your contacts, or just friends, just family, etc.

The term "friends" is clearly too loaded when coupled with the penchant for online journal-communities to be festering wells of drama.
