I went to the Eddie Izzard show last night!
And I am very tired, and possibly sick, considering how many people sneezed on me. But I will say, it was at the Alabama Theatre, which is a gorgeous old-fashioned show-palace theater built in the '20s, and was lit to great effect for the occasion:
Mind you, all these pictures were taken before the show started; the ongoing laser light show was just ambience. It was actually sold out as well (or all but four tickets as of Friday afternoon, as I noticed when I went to get a link to the event); our tickets were on the floor, somewhat near the back. I went with @BluThundur and his wife, who I'd met in person at Dragon Con 2014 (THUS MY OCCASIONALLY LEAVING THE HOUSE PAYS OFF). I wish I could have taken pictures during the show, but there was never a good shot considering the angle and other people's heads, and, more importantly, I hate being That Guy. Which is why I was able to get very few decent shots of the lobby Q&A afterwards, but felt compelled to try because he had changed into a truly fantastic leather jacket:
(I know you want to know just as much as we did: MAC and NARS, and pink lipstick for breast cancer awareness since, as he said, he wasn't really feeling a Decembeard.)
Someone did ask about Hannibal; he said something to the effect of, "Great cast, really wonderful cast to work with. REALLY DISTURBING TO MAKE." I decided at that point not to ask what happened with Gideon's final limb. It was an incredibly enthusiastic crowd, though--half the questions were basically "THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING DOWN HERE" (he decided to hit all fifty states at least once), and one guy specifically asked, "Why isn't James Mason the voice of God anymore?!" He really seemed to like discussing the creative process with questions like that, which was interesting. But we are a very sentimental people, Alabamians; that's exactly what I did when I met Scott Thompson and Aaron Abrams, the deeply earnest "THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING ALL THE WAY DOWN HERE" thing. One girl told him she got the courage to come out after seeing how much her family liked his stuff, and a guy who brought his (chronically ill? didn't quite hear this part?) mother said, "Laughter is the best medicine, and you've put years back on her life." He alluded a few times to finding "people like us all over the world"--he'd never been to Alabama before, and is about to hit Mississippi and Arkansas for the first time, and this was maybe something of a realization. Like, there are people here who do enjoy comedy about history and religion and geeky movies, and do get the references, and are glad to see you, and not only won't run you out of town on a rail but are like you, and are really, really eager to culturally see and be seen. You have people down here, we are your people too. Which, if you are an amazing creator/performer of some kind and you are reading this, let me tell you, this reception can be yours too! PLEASE COME ALL THE WAY DOWN HERE.
I won't rehash the show at length, but there was a return to the Star Wars Canteen bit. Here's the original first, and then a two-years-ago version of what we got last night--the song for Mr. Stevens has evolved into something much longer that gradually shifted to the tune of "America the Beautiful." Also there are two tray sound effects these days--PANG!, of course, but sort of a floot! for The Thin Edge.

So. I haven't been doing that great for a few weeks--I mean, okay, but I hurt my back, had a mild touch of depression--and haven't gotten a whole lot done. So it was particularly nice to get out of the house right now. I am helping a bit with an Aromaleigh X-Files-inspired box that Kristen's going to have out in early February, I think--pre-orders will be on the 15th, and I'll see if there's a preview of some kind to put up in the next week. But this is in the vein of the Primavera and Red Dragon boxes: eyeshadows, a lip product, a fragrance, and some kind of cheek color and/or highlighter as a set, with individual items available a couple of weeks later, and I get to do a huge inspiration/swatch picture post, and it's all super fun.

As far as the Hannibal recaps go, I'm still finishing up "Contorno" (3x05), and I think I'm going to jump back to 2x06 ("Futamono," speaking of Gideon), which I have at least half done from last year, so we'll have some context for the next couple of S3 episodes, then jump back to 3x07 ("Digestivo"), then maybe finish up that S2 storyline with 2x07 ("Yakimono," which is a great one), and then start in on the S3 Red Dragon storyline straight through to the end. IDK, it makes sense to me. Things are always super busy chez Jones this time of year, so that's a schedule that'll take us well into January, possibly February as well.
