Synopsis: Jack goes fishing and actually catches a fish! Only problem is, no one believes his story.
Notes: Written for my " A-to-Z Stargate" challenge; curuchamion requested a Jack-centric story with the prompt "xiphias".
A Fishy Tale
Fishing with Jack in Minnesota was boring, especially when the pond in question was unquestionably fish-less, and the fisherman in question wanted only to sit on the dock and drink beer all day.
Fishing with Jack in Florida, however...
"I tell, ya that sucker was huge!" Jack exclaimed, hands widespread in a demonstration of the size of the fish he allegedly caught earlier in the day. Only one other member of the team saw it, however, and the other two were not inclined to believe Jack's fish story without Daniel's corroboration. The archaeologist, who was annoyed that the struggle to capture said fish resulted in the loss of his new digital camera, wasn't about to dignify Jack with support for his claims.
"Why, then, did you not keep your prize?" Teal'c asked.
"Yeah, you could've just shown it to us," Sam chimed in, rubbing suntan onto her shoulders before settling back into her beach lounger.
Jack rolled his eyes. "I told ya, already, the sucker fought its way loose after we got it on the boat. Besides, the crew that took us out permitted only catch-and-release. Daniel? Back me up already, will ya?"
"Fine," Daniel huffed, putting his book down and sitting up. "Jack caught a xiphias this morning, which measured approximately 22 inches from tip to tail. They didn't get a chance to weigh it though, because the sucker flopped around and managed to get free. Oh, and in case I forgot to mention it, it knocked my camera into the water when Jack first reeled it in."
"You can get another one," Jack pouted. "I doubt I'll ever catch another fish like that monster!"
Sam looked impressed. "So you actually caught a fish?"
"Don't look so surprised!"
"And it was approximately 22 inches in length?" Teal'c persisted.
"End-to-end," Jack swore.
"Of course," Daniel began, a wicked gleam in his eye, "seeing as how it was young swordfish, 14 inches of that was its nose."
"Daniel!"
