I love Daniel's thoughts in this and the way he reasons her capture against the ties that bound her. Very nice. Although we only saw it once in the show, there had to plenty of people out there that associated the mask of Vala with Qetesh. Nicely done, Cleo :)

I had the scene from "Avalon, Pt 2" going through my head as I was writing this... but with the pyre-builders being Qetesh's former followers, instead.

Wow, talk about a DIFFICULT prompt! I saw "resticula" and went "Buh?" even after Googling it. Looked like a nomen nudum, but you pulled it off creatively.

Stylistically, this piece is nothing like Dan Brown. ;-D Much more like Karen Blixen/Isak Dinesen, who writes 10x better. You used past & present tenses to perfection here.

but he is lost in the moment, as is she, and they need this brief affirmation that she is alive and well, and in his arms where she belongs

This subtly evokes the Ara scene in Ver Ager, and the repetition of Vala being held in Daniel's arms in an execution setting supports the assertion that she belongs there. :-) They need to settle down and make babies so this doesn't keep happening to them. (But no beagles, please.) ;-)

Since it was eilidh17, with whom I chat almost nightly, I asked her right after she left the prompt whether she meant the genus of mollusks or the Latin word for "thin rope". A linguist herself, she meant the Latin word.

I had the scene from Avalon in my head as I wrote this :D

Definitely no beagles.
