actually, your sub phone calls are likely to start at 5am. i only ever got 3 or 4 total the night before in a whole year. also, you might want to consider applying to sub in two counties. you can specify which schools you'd be willing to sub in, so you could do southern baltimore county, the entire county, whatever, just like anne arundel county. i always got a bunch of phone calls whenever i got them, but there were definitely days and weeks where i'd only get one or two calls, so it's something to consider. and if you want management experience, hco at towson is down a manager!

Yeah, I'm not really looking forward to subbing!! How was your subbing experience? I don't know how to feel about it... a little worried, excited, nervous... I'm bringing your poem book in my sub bag! :)
Have a wonderful New Years hon!! :)

subbing is one of the easiest jobs ever. i basically sat around the entire time and did my own homework while the kids all did busy work for 55 minutes.

i'm sure that because you'll be a college graduate with a degree in elementary ed, subbing doesn't have the greatest amount of appeal, but it's honestly one of the best ways to get your foot in the door. when you go to interview for full-time teaching positions, they'll see that you've been working in the schools and probably know how things work. when you're a good sub, you'll get specifically requested by teachers. my mom subbed in anne arundel county schools for a year, and she was often requested to fill-in for teachers in the english department at broadneck. true, she did not end up teaching high school english, but she did keep in touch with those teachers and was able to get the inside scoop on a great job opening.

don't get yourself too down about it - this may be what you need to get a job in a school you really want to be in!
