Is it bad?

So, I really don't like my job. I'll be quite honest with you. On Sundays, I get depressed b/c that means that I have to start my work day the next day. During the weekday, I am just doing what I can. Everyone is really nice but I just dont feel like I am... "with it" yet. I guess, since I am a first year teacher, that I won't be entirely with it ( Read more... )

trust me, things'll get better. you hit the nail right on the head - the kids see you as someone who replaced their old teacher but not as "their" teacher. they probably think of you more as a substitute than as their permanent teacher, and that's really only to be expected because you came in during the middle of a school year. next year, you'll have a whole new group of kids, and things won't be nearly as difficult. they'll see you as ms. klocko and not that-new-teacher-who's-not-really-our-teacher! plus, you haven't been there that long. it's just a rough patch and it'll pass with time. you just gotta wear those kids down and ignore their pouting!

Hey, Stef here, I agree with Corinne. This is perhaps something I need to work on too with my job (except I can't put buyers in time out hehe). Just remember, "I'm in control at all times." The moment you yield control, they control you. However, if ever you do lose control don't panic and cry, simply get it back. Take a deep breath and speak in a low, seriously firm voice. I can sort of relate, remember when I did study hall for student athletes and had to tell big intimidating basketball and football players to shut up, I did. Sure, they thought I was a bitch at times, but they listened to me and most of them respected me (can't win them all). So you're dealing with little 4th graders, what is that 9 and 10 year olds? Keep those punks in line and be firm, be strong, be awesome. I know you, you like people to like you, but don't be afraid to be a little harsh to gain respect.

Love you!
