So I am like exactly halfway through the book, right at the beginning of book 3 and I'm finally past the bits I was spoiled for. And I have to say that even though I know in the next few days/weeks whatever there will be people bitching and moaning about the baby, and Jacob imprinting on it and how fast it's development went - I am fucking loving this book.
Hollywood and Anne Rice and white wolf have kind've given us this modernized version of vampires that are scary and sexy and solitary but most importantly sterile. I hate to be the one to remind the world but this hasn't always been the case and not only do I find this to be a fascinating twist on the story, but I commend Stephanie Meyers for including it because dude ... I love
dhampirs - I have since I first started getting interested in vampires in middle school.
I've read the bitching and moaning over the last few days and all I have to offer is that this is not the first major work of vampire fiction either in a literary format or in a motion picture where vampires have been able to have babies. Blade dealt with it to a certain degree, for those anime fans into the darker shows how about Vampire Hunter D? He himself is a dhampir and I've never heard anyone bitch about unbelievability with that (as if vampires are so believable to begin with). I have said time and time again how this series reminds me of a much more enjoyable version of less skanky version of the Anita Blake books and once again - vampire babies are in there too, and like Twilight I believe they eat their way out of their mothers there too.
So ... I guess what I am trying to say is that this isn't the first time, nor will it be the last this subject has been dealt with. I think she did a good job with it personally.
I can also see the foreshadowing for this as having come for a while - and as for Jacob, frankly I think it makes sense. I've learned to like him again in this book. I thought I'd never forgive him for things he did in Eclipse, and while I still don't like them - I kind've love the boy a little.
So that's my piece. Feel free to discuss just don't spoil me for the rest of the book.
