2006 is over, thank you god!

Alright, just put some decemberists on, so might be settling in for a long one again, I'm not sure yet. First of all, thank the sweet, mighty lord above that the year 2006 is over. I honestly don't think I've had a worse year in my life. The year my parents got divorced and my dad had cancer (which was 1994) is probably still the worst, but 2006 ( Read more... )

A book club would be a nice thing indeed... We could petition maybe to start a club-- have book-related trips to nice places, paid with U of M money.

Well, I'll say the year was mostly really kind to me but Flint just radiates gloom, I think... My parents separated this year and my mom's depressed. My little sister's dating this guy in his 30s with an awful lot of kids. You can't walk anywhere. It's unhealthy, this town. Maybe 2007 will be nicer to you, when you're starting something new...?

Do you ever see Chad? I miss him. Especially the Uncle Jack stories.

Thanks for the compliment... I'm sure I don't deserve it! Just some wretched (but ambitious) verse...

We SHOULD petition to start a club. We could even have themes, because I think that just about everyone in the entire world should read Cats Cradle, The Sirens of Titan, and Mother Night by Vonnegut. And don't get me started on the magnificence of any book at all written by someone who used to be a professor at U of M Ann Arbor, Charles Baxter. I actually heard they were making a movie version of his best book, The Feast of Love, thats coming out this year, and was instantly quite terrified. But with Greg Kinnear and Morgan Freeman playing some of the lead roles, I remain somewhat positive ( ... )

Chad joined the Air Force?!? Oh my... I somehow can't imagine him in any sort of military structure.

Are the same people around MSB? Janelle? Josh? If Bailey's still there, tell him I'm still in love with him, and apologize for that time I kneed him in the balls in the UCen. I'm going back to Rec when classes start... Looks like it's the same people hanging around there.

I remember Jan Worth (did you ever take any of her classes?) talking a lot about Charles Baxter but I've never read anything by him... You've got me intrigued-- what do you recommend?

(and I wouldn't be too worried-- Morgan Freeman = Lovely)

Have you read any Jonathan Safran Foer? Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close or Everything is Illuminated? You might like him... The sort of thing that makes you laugh out loud and burst into tears on the same page. Really exquisite writing ( ... )
