Part 28

Clark huddled in on himself trying to find oblivion from the memory of what he'd done to get another dose. But, to ensure that he would remember, Edge was delaying the dose for another ten minutes so that the drug's effects would not give him relief from his guilt and shame.

Edge wanted him to remember the tears running down his face as Edge unzipped his zipper, to remember fighting with himself to deny his need for the drug and losing, to remember finally turning back to Edge and letting Edge use... use his mouth, and to remember knowing that he was betraying everyone he loved and everyone who believed in him as he gave up. Edge wanted him to remember every moment of the act from passively parting his lips to taking an active role when Edge threatened to withhold the vial to swallowing the results. Edge wanted him to remember choosing to crawl away from the door and rechain himself on the bed using leather cuffs that Edge had added meteor studs to ... on the promise that he would get what he had just earned-- only to be told that he would get the dose just as soon as Edge could be sure that he would remember it all.

Clark's plea echoed in Lex's thoughts as he slammed his fist against the steering wheel.

"Lex ...please help me." Clark had cried as he had found the strength to stop rutting against Edge's leg, and it wouldn't stop echoing in his thoughts as Lex stared at the road indecisively. He had told Martha that he would come back and they would figure the next step out together. But, after hearing Clark's voice... Clark's plea, he couldn't -- not knowing that Clark was waiting for him.

He had no idea where to go and even the police officer's information had been vague, but he had to find Clark. Grabbing the phone up, he speed-dialed the Kent's, told them that he was going to find Clark, and abruptly hung up without giving them a moment's chance to answer. Throwing the sportscar into gear, he sped back to Metropolis and was over a third of the way there before he noticed that Clark's plea had changed.

Now, the plea that echoed in his thoughts was an almost whispered "Lex, please find me," - borne on waves of unfathomable pain, sadness, and shame. He couldn't understand how or why it had changed without his noticing, but...
