Transit Woes.

Rush-Hour Metro Fares May Rise as Much as $2.10

This is what happens when you try to operate a rapid transit system that spans 3 jurisdictions. You get an agency that is completely mis-managed and management that is WAY overpaid.

They say that there are not enough riders, but let me tell you, those trains are completely at capacity in the morning. They cannot fit any more people in them! I say, get rid of the stupid seats. You are on a subway train, not Amtrak. If they can deal with no seats in NYC, then you can stand all the way out to Vienna.

Now that I live inside the District proper, I rarely use the system. On the weekends and nights, the trains are way too infrequent... And when they are doing track work (which is pretty much every weekend), you might as well fugitaboutit. One thing that might be helpful is to have good bus service, but even when there is no traffic, service is spotty and unreliable.

The "congested station surcharge" REALLY makes me angry. Isn't the whole point of a subway to get me to a place that is difficult to get to by car?? And having to pay extra to exit at Union Station is extortion.

I really hope the board does not approve this. I can see a slight increase of fares, but this is ridiculous!
