I like the concept of the buffet restaurant (and all the local ones are either 'Chinese' or 'Indian'), but it makes me very glad to be vegetarian. Other than botulism, obviously.

(I've only ever had food poisoning twice in my whole life, once from chicken/KFC, and once from an unidentifiable source for 12 hours in Poland. I'm hoping that my disgusting habit of sucking my thumb has made me immune to most dirt and horrors.).

Traveling abroad, where food poisoning is more of a danger and a far greater bummer makes me appreciate the relative safety of the US. Combined that with the idea that being more adventurous here (the sink is down the hall but this apple is right here) makes me more resistant when I do travel.
I do share your concern though. I heard that most sickness is caused by food poisoning but people don't necessarily identify it. I just avoid restaurants, avoid meat and avoid worrying which I'm sure can't be good for my immune system.
