He might be against gay marriage, but Obama is for civil unions to be made legally the same as marriage, and to be given the same amount of importance. That's what I like, and while I'm bi, I'm also religious and I feel that that's perhaps the best option to avoid conflict.
P.S. I voted No on 8. I may have religious leanings but I am a staunch believer in separation of church and state, no matter the "justification". And, despite religious leanings, I really, really want to attend Joe's wedding someday if he finds a partner for life. I'm there for him and I can't find anything in me to tell him that I disapproved or I disagreed with a choice like that. It's a commitment, a declaration, and it doesn't threaten any aspect of my relationship with my guy. Why would it? Ugh.
