My escort training seminar for Planned Parenthood is coming up fast. Do any of you have tips or things that I should know? I'm really excited about this. :)

:P

Did you go through a training seminar? I guess I'm just not sure what will be covered, other than how to talk to them and how to handle protestors. Mostly it's because I'm a curious person by nature and I just like knowing things as soon as possible.

I wish I had had a training seminar. I basically just got "briefed", like puckish, and then mostly learned from observation. I'd love to know what they teach at the seminar.

They're doing 3 hour seminars two different days in December (but you only have to go to one). From what I gather, the clinic is getting a lot more flak than it used to.

Wear a warm coat and a hat and mittens. :)

Might I also mention that I am truly, truly inspired by your open-mindedness, rational thought, and dedication to preventing abortion while still acknowledging reality? You are extremely refreshing.

Welcome to our stalwart band :)

I had a training session and then they put me out with an experienced escort for one escorting day. They should give you a briefing on what the law is - what the protestors can do, what they can't do, who to call if things go down and what kind of support to expect, etc.

As for tips - check out a couple posts ago, I put out some surveys on abortion-related communities (abortioninfo, etc) asking women what they wanted from escorts. It's not scientific, of course, but you can get an overall feeling - nearly everyone wants you to walk next to them, most people like you to tell them you're a volunteer, and your name (if you're willing), etc. Note- if you say your name there the protestors may overhear it and you might not want that. It's not a big deal to me - the protestors here know my name and I don't care. But you may feel differently ( ... )

Thanks for the support. I echo your sentiments about why I want to do this... I feel like I am obligated to do something real to help, since writing letters and calling legislators only goes so far.
